Ugandan elected to chair East and Horn of Africa Election Observers

Uganda’s Crispin Kaheru has been elected to chair the board of Election Observers in East and horn of Africa. Kaheru the coordinator of Citizens Coalition for Electoral Democracy in Uganda (CCEDU) was on 28th November 2018 voted for a three year term in the third council meeting of the East and Horn of Africa Election Observers network (E-HORN) which took place at Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi Kenya.

Other substantive office bears elected include Deputy Chairperson Lony Rout the representative of South Sudanese Network for Democratic Elections (SSUNDE), Treasurer Dr Audax Kweyamba the representative of Tanzania Election Monitoring Committee (TEMCO) and Secretary Carol Werunga the representative of Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC).

The third council meeting also made resolutions to activate country forums in all member countries, to support joint regional election observation and technical mission and to promote partnership with relevant regional bodies and organisations. It was also resolved to establish contact with prospective members in Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Somalia, Somali-land, Punt-land, Eritrea and Djibouti.

The six member E-Horn council is a regional independent, nonpartisan and inclusive body establish to link election observation networks and individual monitoring organization in the East and the Horn of Africa.
