Colorado’s elected officials, along with prominent Jewish leaders and a multitude of steadfast supporters of Israel, convened at the steps of the state Capitol. This gathering took place nine days following a tragic attack by Hamas on Israel, uniting attendees in mourning, prayer, and solidarity.

Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper delivered a joint statement, assuring that the United States would provide Israel with the necessary resources to defend itself. In Denver, nearly 7,000 miles away from the conflict zone, voices echoed in resonance with global expressions of support for Israel.

Taking the stage at the Capitol, Governor Jared Polis shared his thoughts on the recent acts of terrorism, emphasizing the need to confront hatred and bias. He made it clear that in Colorado, there is no room for hatred against Jews, Muslims, Christians, or any group, pledging unity and support for Israel.

As Colorado’s first Jewish governor, Polis expressed his pride in joining the community to stand up for Israel and its people, exemplifying hope and resilience for others to follow.

The rally, hosted by the Israeli American Council, drew the deeply personal emotions of its members. Hezy Shalev, an Israeli residing in Colorado, stressed the importance of support during these trying times, reflecting the sentiments of many. State Rep. Yaron Weinberg, who shared the event with his family affected by the crisis in Israel, underscored the significance of the rally in providing encouragement and a sense of togetherness.

John Hickenlooper, the former mayor of Denver and the state’s former governor, viewed the attacks on Israel as a reminder for all, regardless of their religious or cultural background, to stand against hatred and support their Jewish friends and neighbors. He reiterated the commitment to reconnect families separated by the conflict and provide necessary assistance during these challenging times. This rally exemplified Colorado’s strong support for the Jewish community and the people of Israel.
